"Great Mediterranean food descriptions, you can taste the spices; experience cultural flavors, feel the emotional connection of the families; and a strong characters making powerful passionate choices. From the beginning of the story, the reader is immersed in atmosphere; deep aromas, clear visuals and visceral action. You care about Frankie and Petra and how life experience both attract and repel them from each other and other relationships.

If you are looking for a well designed mystery within a wealth of sexual tension and release, this s an entertaining story with several surprises. I strongly recommend this writer's work." --T-Valada-Viars

Compelling characters and wonderful storytelling. Well worth the read!

Already being a fan of EA Kafkalas (having loved her published plays and her sci-fi novel "The Second Heart"), I eagerly dove into her first crime/mystery novel. "Frankie and Petra" does not disappoint! Lush, compelling characters leap out from the page and pull you into their lives. The mystery is gripping, full of twists and turns that will keep even the most avid sleuth guessing! Kafkalas gives us the perfect mixture of realistic detail and storytelling in her plot, her characters, and the world they inhabit. This was a novel I was truly sorry to finish - because it definitely left me wanting more of Frankie, Petra, and the rest of the denizens of this book! Luckily, Kafkalas has already posted that she's working on a sequel - and I, for one, can't wait! --Jess Wilson

Kafkalas Hits the Mark with Frankie & Petra

From the first page of Frankie & Petra I was drawn in to the characters and the story. Kafkalas' wonderful dialogue and vivid descriptions set the tone for a suspenseful romance. The twists and turns experienced as the novel unfolds kept me in my seat and reading into the night as chapter after chapter flew by. There are just too many great reasons to buy and read Frankie & Petra! -- Rita Carver

Compelling characters

It's uncommon, and fun, to encounter a Greek American character in contemporary literature. Petra Theopholis walks a rocky path through her often dangerous work as a police detective, her close-knit family, and her bruised feelings about love and relationships. The younger Frankie is no stranger to horrifying loss, either, and has developed a distrust of police officers.

These two are brought together in what appears to be a superficial and likely regrettable encounter. When Frankie becomes involved in a case Petra is working, they must untangle not only the clues but their own inner wounds.

By the end of the story, you really care about these two and are curious about how things unfold for them from here. This fine storytelling would be made even better by a bit of editing. I hope EA Kafkalas writes about Greek American life again.
